I Did A Blog Thing
MARCH 28, 2020
Hi friends //
I’m sharing a very exciting announcement today: I’m starting a blog. And it’s equal parts thrilling and terrifying. Thrilling because it’s something I’ve secretly always wanted to do, and terrifying because I’ve always been too scared to do it - to put myself out there with my writing (confession: it’s not my strong suit — Exhibit A: give me paper: I’ll make > write any day). But enough’s enough and I’m putting my foot down and getting this thing out into the world (it’s 2020 after all). So I hope you can follow along - read a little bit, a lot of it, or meh, even none of it if this blog thing really isn’t your thing (!) Nonetheless, I’m truly looking forward to sharing my thoughts and musings on this platform and to be expanding my content through this new medium.
So why do this / what can you expect to see here?
Since having finished architecture school in 2015 and getting thrown into the corporate world (#adulting), I discovered quickly that a piece of me desperately started to miss the creative freedom and constant opportunities for making that surrounded me in my collaborative studio environment. So after my first year of 9-5ing, I began to think how I could resurface more creative work in my life. Hence the inspiration to start studio domka was born. I founded this platform in 2016 as a means to further investigate the many ideas that left me most inspired from my architecture studies (specifically, notions of dwelling and home) and how those ideas can be translated into a long-time passion project of mine that is hand-making cards.
Since its inception, studio domka has grown to more broadly encompass my design interests and bodies of work both personally and professionally, most recently within my current profession as a graphic designer. I now view this platform as an extension of my personal brand and outlet for all of my design musings - both handmade and digital. With this journal specifically, I'll be diving deeper into many of the phenomenological (say that 5 times fast) and existential ideologies I researched doing my Master’s thesis (forewarning: it may get deep) — while also using this outlet to more-elaborately house my latest explorations and inspirations spanning across architecture, graphic design, and art (among several more design-related subjects).
My hope is that this writing welcomes more individuals to better understand the inspirations that fuel studio domka, in addition to the approaches and design thinking behind my work as an artist, designer, and maker. I welcome your thoughts always as I start on this writing journey. Is there anything you’d want to hear more about? Any topics you'd like to see explored? If you've made it this far and are still reading, I thank you wholeheartedly for being here and taking the time to welcome my run-on thoughts. I suppose I'll end here for now — that's a *(first)* wrap.
